HB 281: CRIMES AGAINST PEACE OFFICERS – Amends existing law to provide penalties for assault, battery, or murder of a peace officer.
Increases penalties for assault and battery on peace officers and certain public personnel under IC 18-915, including mandatory 15-year fixed term for specific aggravated assaults and doubled punishments. Raises minimum confinement for first-degree murder of a peace officer from 10 to 35 years under IC 18-4004. Named 'Bolter-Stall Defend the Defender Act' with emergency effective date of July 1, 2025.
