HB 500 clarifies that motor vehicle drivers must use due care to avoid colliding with operators or riders of human-powered vehicles, bicycles, and electric-assisted bicycles. It confirms that these bicycle and e-bike operators have the same rights and duties as drivers of other vehicles under traffic laws and must exercise due care. The measure responds to a recent court ruling regarding e-bikes and took effect July 1, 2026 after passing both chambers unanimously and being signed by the Governor.
