HB 509: IDAHO TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT – Amends existing law to provide that certain vehicles shall not be subject to more than one inspection within a seventy-two-hour period.

This bill amends Idaho law so that commercial vehicles over 26,001 pounds are subject to only one inspection every 72 hours at ports of entry or checking stations. After an initial stop, the Idaho Transportation Department must use technology to let these vehicles bypass further inspections during that period. Noncommercial vehicles remain exempt. The measure aims to balance roadway safety enforcement with efficient truck operations, especially for local traffic. It takes effect July 1, 2026.
