HB 562: INSURANCE – Amends existing law to revise provisions regarding cancellation and nonrenewal of certain policies.
HB 562 has been enacted as Session Law Chapter 201. It amends Idaho Code Sections 41-1842 and 41-2401 to extend notice periods for cancellation (excluding nonpayment) and nonrenewal of specified commercial insurance policies and standard fire policies from 30 or 45 days to a uniform 60 days. This provides policyholders additional time to locate replacement coverage. The bill originated with the House Business Committee, passed the House 51-17-2 and Senate 20-13-2, was signed by the Governor on March 27, 2026, and takes effect January 1, 2027.
