HB 570: RECKLESS DRIVING – Amends existing law to revise a provision regarding reckless driving.
HB 570 updates reckless driving laws in Idaho. It changes the definition to include driving more than 20 mph over the speed limit in active school zones (with children present) or construction zones (with workers present) as reckless driving. The bill adjusts legal language for clarity with semicolons separating offenses. First-time offenders face up to 6 months jail and $1,000 fines. Repeat offenders within 5 years can get up to 1 year jail, $2,000 fines, and license suspension. Inattentive driving is defined as a lesser offense. The measure passed with strong support and took effect July 1, 2026.
