HB 629: TRANSPORTATION – Amends existing law to provide for a printed copy of a registration card for vehicles.
This bill amends Idaho law to allow vehicle owners to carry a printed copy of an electronically issued registration card instead of a traditional physical card. It updates Idaho Code Section 49-202 on DMV fees for physical registration receipts and Section 49-427 to explicitly permit printed electronic copies to satisfy the requirement that registration be carried in the vehicle and available for inspection by peace officers. Commercial vehicles already had electronic options. The bill passed both chambers after Senate amendments, was signed by the Governor, and took effect July 1, 2026. It is projected to create mailing cost savings for the state with no new revenue or expenditure impact.
