HB 678: TRAPPING – Adds to existing law to provide for the checking of wolf traps.
HB 678 adds a new section to Idaho law requiring wolf trappers to inspect traps or snares every 72 hours and promptly remove any catch. Compliance can be achieved by in-person visits or by using a remote transmitting camera with an unobstructed view of the trap. The bill was introduced by the House Resources and Conservation Committee, amended in the Senate to specify remote camera use, passed both chambers with strong support, signed by the Governor, and took effect July 1, 2026. The legislation has no fiscal impact.
