HB 825: MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION – Amends and adds to existing law to eliminate the fee for the copyrighted license plate design and to establish the America250 license plate for the benefit of the Idaho Heritage Trust.
The bill eliminates the $0.50 per plate fee previously paid to the Idaho Heritage Trust from standard red-white-and-blue license plate designs. It creates a new voluntary America250 specialty license plate. A portion of the fees paid for these plates ($25 initial and $15 renewal) will now support the Heritage Trust. The measure amends vehicle registration statutes, adds a new plate section, revises fee handling in the plate manufacturing account, and updates Heritage Trust funding language. After Senate amendments and House concurrence, it was signed by the Governor and became effective March 27, 2026.
