SB 1247: MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT – Adds to existing law to establish provisions regarding law enforcement entering into a memorandum of agreement.
The amended bill requires every Idaho law enforcement agency (municipal police and county sheriffs) to apply for a federal Section 287(g) program allowing specially trained local officers to perform immigration enforcement functions under ICE oversight. Agencies unable to secure the memorandum of agreement must publicly state their reasons and any alternative cooperation efforts attempted. The act declares an emergency and becomes effective July 2, 2026.
