SB 1335: EDUCATION – Amends existing law to revise provisions regarding contract requirements for state-supported medical and veterinary students.
This enacted law amends Idaho Code to require individuals receiving state support for medical or veterinary school to practice full-time in Idaho for four years after training. Veterinary students (starting 2027) must devote at least 600 hours per year to agricultural animals such as cattle, sheep, goats, and swine. Those who fail to comply must reimburse the state. A reimbursement fund is created to handle repayments and offer incentive grants to qualifying Idaho physicians and veterinarians. The bill passed the Senate 33-2 and House 54-16, was signed by the Governor, and took effect March 31, 2026.
